Broome-Tioga Workforce New York to List Successes at Annual Meeting
BINGHAMTON, NY - Members of the Broome-Tioga Workforce New York Workforce Investment Board will highlight accomplishments and a new training initiative at their annual meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 12:00 Noon at the Binghamton Regency.
The Broome-Tioga area has met and exceeded many performance goals set by New York State in the areas of employment, retention, and wage goals for its customers. In addition, the performance goals for Youth have been met and exceeded in the areas of participation, job and training placements, and increasing literacy scores. (see document links below)
“In the face of growing fiscal constraints, our office has continued to provide quality job search and training services to a large number of the unemployed and those looking for better employment, “ according to Terry R. Stark, Director of the Broome Tioga Workforce Investment Board.
“We are in the midst of tough economic times that require our efforts to be very focused and productive,” said Executive Barbara J. Fiala. “Broome-Tioga Workforce has been very good about directing its resources to the present day demands of our local companies as well as working with these same companies to develop strategies that will help train our future workforce.”
More than 400 current employees of local manufacturing, healthcare and construction businesses are expected to complete classes held at Broome Community College and their work sites. Participating companies include BAE Systems, Universal Instruments, Endicott Interconnect, Emerson Network Power, and the Southern Tier Home Builders Association. (see attached document)
“We have also been able to assist area businesses in increasing the skill level of current employees by sponsoring training programs on leadership, communications, computer skills and modern manufacturing techniques, “ Stark said.
Broome-Tioga Workforce New York operates two One Stop Centers to assist local residents find new jobs and career advice, and to assist local businesses with recruiting and training issues.
The Workforce New York offices are located at 171 Front Street in Binghamton, and at the Tioga County Human Services building located on Route 38 in Owego.
Broome-Tioga Workforce is a unique partnership between Tioga and Broome Counties and the regional business community to help businesses recruit and retain talented workers, assess and respond to current and future workforce needs. The mission of the organization is to help individuals obtain rewarding career opportunities.
