Tire Chip DeploymentTire Chips Edge

1,000,000 scrap tires have been removed from the environment and used in the landfill liner construction project.

As Broome County continues to look for ways to reduce costs, the beneficial use of scrap tires has resulted in a saving of $300,000 in landfill construction and operational costs and has saved valuable landfill airspace. This savings is a result of substituting scrap tire shreds for traditional stone and soil for the leachate drainage layer and for the frost protection layer in the new landfill liner.
